Blakely Harbor
on my own again
I’m still trying to squeeze in a couple of new places on the weekends so after working anchored out in Liberty Bay after Mom and Dad left, I decided to head to Blakely Harbor on Friday. This was on the recommended from friends list for the multi-million dollar views of Downtown Seattle.

It was an uneventful weekend, really. I’m getting used to being on my own again but the boat is feeling a little quiet these days, I’ll admit.
The bioluminescence is still lingering about ever so faintly at night. That’s one thing I’ve forgotten to mention on this trip that has been a bucket list item for me. The critters up here in the water are basically the lightning bugs of the sea. When disturbed, they light up bright blue and the water looks like a magic potion. I tried to get a picture of it happening with my phone, but that was impossible so here’s a stock photo of how it can look when the water crashes onto shore.
I knew it was something that occurred in the San Juans but I wasn’t sure if it was pure luck or if it was a common thing. Well, it’s incredibly common on the warmer nights of the year. Even without disturbing the water you see a sparkle that just normally isn’t there. Hard to explain, I guess. BUT bucket list item checked. (Along with the Northern Lights in Oregon, it’s been a big year for my bucket list items.)
Ok, back to boating… so yes, Blakely Harbor is surprisingly quiet and protected. I shared the view with private homes but no one seemed to mind a few boats anchored in the harbor.

Have I mentioned I’ve made plans to go home finally? October 3rd is my haul out date. Everyone is asking if I’m ready. I don’t think the answer to that will ever be a definitive ‘yes’. I’m not ready but I’m also not not ready. Right? I’m looking forward to seeing my friends and neighbors and my boating family again. I’m not craving my couch or my bed or any of my creature comforts.Part of me can’t believe I’ve done this for the last four months but mostly it has felt ridiculously normal even in the tough times.
